April Socks

For my April socks, I thought I'd make a real pair of socks from the Christmas Stocking Pattern. I had to alter it a bit, fewer stitches and no bobbles or eyelet row and a bigger heel, to make it fit a real foot but I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out. I wrote it all down and made a chart but I'm still searching for the lady who wrote the original pattern. I never want to be accused of copyright violation. I think I might have found her but now I find I'm too shy to contact her. How would you feel about that, would it be really weird to have someone contact you? Should I do it? I don't know, I have to think about it.

Pretty socks! And I think I'd be flattered if I were the Christmas stocking designer. You have nothing to lose for asking.

The socks are truly lovely. I think it was a very good idea. As a designer I would love to be contacted and know that someone likes my pattern this much.

Glorious! I'm adding another vote for you to contact the stocking designer. How could she not be honored? Great job, and thanks for sharing such wonderful pics to keep us inspired! :)

Nice job modifying the pattern. Your socks look wonderful.

Hmmm, that's a tough question about contacting the designer. There's no way of knowing how she'll respond.
You are doing the right thing, though, by contacting her. You've done the work to modify the pattern so it's a wearable sock. You deserve credit too.

Awesome job! If I didn't have so many socks on the needles I'd give it a go myself.
Contact the designer. The worst that could happen is she'll thank you for the hard work you put in and say no. But I'll be sock's worth of yarn you get a YES.

Those are some fabulous socks, and I hope you have already decided to contact the original pattern author.

I am Pat Clockedile and my daughter, Sandy, forwarded the message you sent to her, to me. I am flattered that you like my pattern so well. Of all the things I have designed it is one of my favorites. I, too, altered it for a sock to be worn but never published it. I have nearly given up knitting due to several hand and thumb surgeries on both hands. I really miss it but have found new hobbies (stil in the arts & crafts area) that are less painful (it's the purling that is painful so I still make plain socks using "magic loop"). You definitely have my permission to publish your pattern that was inspired by mine. Thank you so much for taking the time to track me down. Best wishes. My Ravelry username is coffeepondpat.

I would love to have the Christmas stocking pattern. Please let me know where I can purchase it. Thank you.

Judith, the Christmas stocking is out of print but the designer is on Ravelry as coffeepondpat. Maybe you could contact her. I'm writing up (very slowly) a pattern for the socks and will be sharing it when I'm done.
